As the days get colder and you spend more time inside (staying cosy!) this is the perfect time to start a new knitting project! Whether you are a beginner knitter or a seasoned expert, there is always time to get the needles out and make something new for Autumn.

If you want something more unique, than say a store bought sweater or pair of socks, then there is only one answer - you should make it yourself! Starting a new knitting project, is a great way to pass some time this month and create something warm that you will cherish. Not really cheaper than buying a sweater or pair of chunky knit socks from the shops, but you do have the benefits of choosing your yarns and pattern style.

I really want to make an oversized chunky knit, possibly in a garter stitch, so it’s quick to knit up, I’m not a huge fan of intricate projects, as I like to move on and see the finished product. There is a fantastic choice of free knitting patterns available on Ravelry and other blogs. I have a roundup of some of the best picks from Pinterest for you here:

This basic cardigan pattern is a great project for a beginner. The easy chunky, garter stitch will be a dream to knit and looks like quite a fast make!

I hope these projects have given you some ideas, for new projects to start this month. I am currently working on knitted animals for my Etsy shop stock and trying to finish a chunky beanie that I started last winter and still haven't finished it.

If you are a beginner and need help with casting on and garter stitch, please see my previous blog post - with the knitting basics here:
